AGW 2/20
Dear Lancer Families,
I would like to follow up regarding the incident at Wheaton North High School today and share why we enacted our safety protocols out of an abundance of caution.
Although the situation was not taking place at St. Michael Parish School, we made the proactive decision to initiate our Secure and Teach protocol to ensure the continued safety of our students and staff while local authorities investigated. The safety of our school community will always be our top priority, and when situations arise nearby, we will respond thoughtfully and decisively.
Today also provided us with our first opportunity to utilize our new internal alert system, which operates through an app on staff members’ phones and is designed for use in any safety situation. As with any new protocol, there is a learning curve. We will be debriefing with staff in the coming days to reflect on today’s response and make any necessary adjustments to continue strengthening our procedures.
I am proud to share that our staff reacted exactly as they should have. They followed protocol, remained calm, and did an excellent job reassuring students that everyone within our building was safe. I understand that emergency alerts can feel alarming, and some students may have been unsettled by the notification. It is never our intention to create additional stress or anxiety, and we apologize if any students came home feeling upset about the events of the day.
Shortly after initiating Secure and Teach, I came on the PA system to provide additional direction and clear information to students and staff so they understood what was happening and why. We also had outside members of our safety team come to campus to provide additional support and to help ensure the safety of all students, staff, and visitors—again, purely out of an abundance of caution.
We are grateful for our partnership with local law enforcement and District 200 Administration and for the professionalism of our faculty and staff. Thank you for your continued trust as we work together to maintain a safe, calm, and faith-filled learning environment for your children.
Make it a GREAT day, Lancers!

Surrender Workshop
“Jesus, I trust in you. But Seriously... What’s the Plan?
What if God isn’t asking you to figure it all out… but simply to trust Him in the middle of the mess?
Join us for a morning of sisterhood, laughter, inspiring stories, and powerful prayer practices as speaker and resilience coach Jenny Krumdrick invites us to experience the freedom of surrender.
Together we’ll explore:What surrender really means (and doesn’t!)
Why letting go of the outcome doesn’t mean we stop showing up
How to glorify God with our process, not just our perfection
A reimagined Surrender Novena prayer you can actually live out
You’ll leave feeling lighter, more aligned, and renewed for your Lenten journey, with practical ways to lay down your burdens and trust Jesus more deeply.
