AGW 2/6

Dear Lancer Families,

We had an incredible STEAM Week at St. Michael Parish School! A huge thank you to the SMPO for hosting and supporting such engaging and enriching activities for our students throughout the week.

Our K–3 students had a blast building LEGO structures while learning about early engineering and problem-solving skills. Meanwhile, our 4th–8th graders dove into the science of weather and tornadoes during the exciting Storm Science presentation. Students were amazed to see how tornadoes form—especially when one was created right inside Cashin Gym!

On Wednesday evening, SMPO hosted the annual STEM Night, and this year added the Arts to make it a true STEAM Night. Thank you to all the vendors who generously shared their talents, creativity, and expertise with our students and families—it was a wonderful night of hands-on learning and exploration.

We were also thrilled to host an Art Contest as part of STEAM Week. Students submitted beautiful, original works of art, making it very difficult to choose just a few winners. Congratulations to our 2026 Art Contest winners:

  • Mrs. Malee’s Choice
    Hannah Wiedman, 5th Grade
    Artwork: In the Blooms

  • Best in Show
    Sophia Mendoza, 6th Grade
Artwork: The Face of STEAM: Half Human, Half Future

  • Best 3D
    Beatrice Fabian, 7th Grade
    Artwork: Streaming Art

Thank you again to SMPO, our presenters, vendors, and students for making STEAM Week such a memorable and inspiring experience!

  • 8th Grade Confirmation Retreat - Today, our 8th grade students recently participated in a meaningful Confirmation retreat led by Dr. Terry Nelson-Johnson. The day began with Mass celebrated as a class, giving students the opportunity to gather in prayer and reflect together on their faith. Following Mass, students took part in a small retreat focused on continuing their faith journey as they prepare to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation. Through thoughtful discussion, reflection, and guidance, the retreat encouraged students to deepen their relationship with Christ and grow in understanding of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. We are grateful to Dr. Nelson-Johnson for guiding our students during this special and formative experience.

  • Nut Free Snacks - A quick reminder that when sending in birthday treats or any snacks to be shared with the class, they must be nut-free. This helps us keep all students safe, as some children have severe nut allergies. Thank you for your care and cooperation in creating a safe classroom environment for everyone.

  • Lancer Care Announcement - Parents, please email Mike at the Lancer Care email (lancercare@stmichaelcommunity.org) if you know that your child is going to be late to Lancer Care because of an afterschool activity or if your child, for example, accidentally got on the bus and won't be in Lancer Care that day. This allows better accountability of which students should be in attendance.

Make it a GREAT day, Lancers!
